In the Cupped and Boned Foundations class, you will do an intensive 5 day class learning the design, draft, fit and construction of boned and cupped foundations including boned bodices, cupped corsets, bustiers and Merry Widows. You MUST already be sewing bras or corsets before this class (this is a Master class – so no beginner sewists, please!) You are expected to know how to sew at least a full band bra, but better if you can also other types of bras or corsets – this will give you confidence to work through our lessons.
The Cupped and Boned Foundations course includes 112 pages of class notes and any pertinent pattern pieces you need such as generic sample size, boned frames and the cups. You will also get sample separators and boning so you can practice all these in class. You will be making a workbook of generic sized samples to take home. Use of the classroom sewing machines is included, and you can take them to the hotel at night if you wish to sew there.
Styles of Cupped and Boned Foundations we will be learning – bustier, basic corset construction, cupped corsets, boned bras, cage bras as a foundation for wedding and formal wear. Bonus lesson on separators and how to use them, and design with them in mind. You will also learn how to make prefect, non-collapsing corset loops for the back of your garment.
Learn all about materials, boning and separator types and styles and where to get them. Make a basic boned sample-sized frame to audition cup styles and constructions. All the techniques will be made on sample sizes, in order to cover all the techniques learned in the Cupped and Boned Foundations class.
Bring to class a notebook, pencils, invisible (“magic”) clear tape, rulers, curved and straight, eraser, bras and corset-type garments you have made that fit, even ones that do NOT fit, bra and corset supplies, fabric, wires, findings to make at least 2-3 garments and samples to take home. If you have your own favourite bra patterns, bring that as you “may” have time to work with it.
